Dear Player, Parent, Coaches, and Club Officials,
Many teams from different clubs across the area continually seek higher level play and participate in leagues such as Region One, Colonial, PAGS, MAPS, and Delco. In most cases, the decision to do so results from having a group of advanced players who naturally need challenging opportunities to keep improving their play. However, in many cases, the pursuit of better players by clubs or individual players seeking such opportunities creates an environment in which players continually migrate from one team to another. Conversely, many players who are not ready for higher-level play get little time on the field and may ultimately be forced off the team.
We feel such an environment is not always in the players’ best interest, particularly at the younger age groups (U11 – U15) during which physical and psychological development is still taking place. Frequent ‘team-hopping’ or being ‘promoted’ or ‘demoted’ away from a team of school friends removes the nurturing stability many players need to fully realize their early potential. Yet, at the same time, it is important for the above-average player to be in a challenging situation surrounded by other players of equal or higher talent.
The Keystone Athletic USL Super Y program is an alternative in which advanced players can train and compete on a team of their peers while remaining with their respective club teams to compete as they normally do in the spring and fall. This way, advanced players develop further with their peers, yet continue to make the significant contributions valued by their club teams.
The USL stands as the sole provider of a tiered system of premier soccer for all genders in North American, offering professional soccer at the First and Second Division levels, pre-professional play with the PDL and W-League, national level amateur Super 20 league and the premier youth Super Y-League.
There are many good trainers and coaches in the Lehigh Valley area. We believe that together we can all maintain our unique club identities and also allow the best players an opportunity to play together during the Super Y-League seasonal months, and return to their clubs as much-improved players.
Please read about the Super Y-league and our program in our information book entitled,“GOAL 2010”available by clicking here. If you have any questions, or need additional information, please feel free to contact me at steve@acperugiausa.com or by calling the numbers below.
